Christian Hosoi found freedom

hosoishot

Christian Hosoi was and is an ultimate skateboarding hero. Ask anyone from the 80′s and 90′s and you’d get the same response. His skate decks where under my feet in my early teenage years and I loved watching him shred in old videos (like Terror in Tahoe!). Today I got to watch his story of freedom. One word…Awesome!

BASIC by Francis Chan

BASIC series

Francis Chan has a video series called BASIC. There are 7 different topics. I’ve seen 6 out of the 7 so far and they are really good. I stumbled across this launch event where Francis talks about the series. It’s broken up into 2 different videos, but I think it’s worth the 20 minutes or so. I think Francis really hits the mark with these thoughts. As someone who reads the Bible as truth, I [...]

Not Ordinary

Tree's and Vines

Is it possible for ordinary people to become more like Jesus? Some would say “no way”, we sin way too much. But as followers of Christ, I believe that’s what we should be shooting for.

His Command

GOmakeDisciples_SMALL

“Angels don’t spread the Gospel, people do” – David Platt. A few weeks ago I heard about this group called Cafe 1040 and was inspired. There are two basic reasons… 1. they are focusing on the next generation 2. they are trying to live out the Great Commission. As followers of Christ, we all have a duty to live out the Gospel. I designed a quick visual call-to-action.   Here’s a way you can help sitting [...]

In need?

eastafricandroughtSM

It’s hard for me to read the news most of the time. We seem to be constantly bombarded with heart-breaking, shocking, sometimes disgusting, and even ridiculous stories. Of course that’s a blanket statement, there are always exceptions. But I really cannot believe these photos of the current East Africa drought I stumbled across on Denverpost.com. Even though I know this is only 1 thing going on in a beautiful and broken world, the sadness is [...]

I am second.

Iamsecond

I found the “I am Second” website a while back and thought the concept was awesome. I watched some of the stories and was inspired. Putting God first… Great idea right?! Anyway, today my wife sent me this one particular story and said – “you have to check this out”. Well, she was right. It’s an incredible story. It’s well worth the ten minutes, I promise! The video is called Whispering Danny. More about “I [...]

Slowness & Patience

Alva

I was inspired by God again today. I watched a video which was basically the “story” of an old skateboarding legend. His name is Tony Alva. Mainly, I liked him for his unique style (and the cool designs of the skate decks). I didn’t know him though. As a kid, I only saw a tiny view of who he was in Thrasher magazine. Like most people I come into contact with, I had no idea [...]

1.1.11

knowGod

One. One. One One. All ones. It’s kinda like starting over again. Here’s my short resolution list for 2011. – DO (don’t just “think” about doing, actually DO) – Always rely on God for direction. – Continue reading & studying the Word everyday. – Work in more regular scripture based family time so we can learn more TOGETHER. – Give more. – Love more. – Keep pushing further outside my comfort zone. My continual prayer [...]

The Greatest Gift

christmas

Colorful lights, warm cozy fires, Frosty the Snowman songs, Santa Claus, cookies, and  toys…lots of toys! That’s what Christmas is all about, right? Well, that’s what it meant to me for a really long time and it WAS fun that way. But this year, things have changed, and Christmas has turned into something quite different. I see Christmas through a new lens and let me tell you…it’s much more meaningful than ever before. Even when [...]

Got Time?

clock

Don’t you wish relationships were easy? Don’t you wish you could just sit back and things would take care of themselves? After all, who has time to work so hard at yet another relationship? I mean, you already have a husband or wife,  your kids, co-workers at the office…and the list goes on from there! Maintaining a social life can be draining! Think about it…without working at a specific relationship, you’ll soon find problems or distance. You’ll [...]

Love your neighbor as yourself

serving & outreach

This is actually a “guest post” I was asked to write for the Buckhead Church blog. I figured I should repost here as well. Over the last few months, I’ve come to realize that serving is one of those things Jesus expects of us. It’s our duty as followers to give Him glory through our time, money and talents. That’s why I was really excited when Buckhead announced the howtoberich.org campaign. As Christ creates this servant’s heart [...]

I Tell You the Truth

map_EastCobb_GA

I’m still studying the book of Mathew. It’s pretty awesome to read so much straight from the mouth of Jesus. One of my favorite things is when He says -”I tell you the truth…”. I love it when He starts out a sentence saying that. The more I read through the book of Mathew, the more I can really picture Him saying this to His disciples. He’s basically looking at them straight in the eye [...]

A Conversation Between Friends

FB

Yesterday was kind of an odd day for me. It was one of the first days in a long time where I started to feel myself slip back to the “old me” with stress and insecurity and self concern coming to the surface. Luckily I told my wife. She then proceeded to rally the kids together and gave me a big cheer. Yup, a real genuine cheer with pom-pom’s and all – and no, she [...]

Just the Start

Drive Home

I’m Jason Davenport. I was one of those people who thought they had it all figured out. Someone who thought science and undeniable proof was the bridge to logic and understanding in this world. I wasn’t raised in a Church, nor to necessarily follow God. I was definitely one of those doubters you run into form time to time. Really the whole topic just made me kinda laugh. I thought the world was about stuff, [...]
