7 Ways to Help

Sometimes it’s hard to know to help people. I stumbled across this list from Relevant Magazine and thought it had some great ideas.

Christian Hosoi found freedom

hosoishot

Christian Hosoi was and is an ultimate skateboarding hero. Ask anyone from the 80′s and 90′s and you’d get the same response. His skate decks where under my feet in my early teenage years and I loved watching him shred in old videos (like Terror in Tahoe!). Today I got to watch his story of freedom. One word…Awesome!

The Perfect Gift

godsky

My walk has been short, but the effect it’s had on “holidays” has been pretty immense. Things have changed, to say the least. The last few Advent seasons, I’ve read and re-read the account of Jesus’ birth. This morning, I started in Matthew, then Mark, but ended up being drawn to this specific verse in John….

My Thanksgiving note to God

thankyouGod

Dear Heavenly Father, I want to give thanks to you on this lovely Fall November day. Honestly though, I’m really not sure where to start. You do so much for me that I’m literally blown away. The miracles I see daily are only mere reminders of your amazing glory.

Not Ordinary

Tree's and Vines

Is it possible for ordinary people to become more like Jesus? Some would say “no way”, we sin way too much. But as followers of Christ, I believe that’s what we should be shooting for.

In need?

eastafricandroughtSM

It’s hard for me to read the news most of the time. We seem to be constantly bombarded with heart-breaking, shocking, sometimes disgusting, and even ridiculous stories. Of course that’s a blanket statement, there are always exceptions. But I really cannot believe these photos of the current East Africa drought I stumbled across on Denverpost.com. Even though I know this is only 1 thing going on in a beautiful and broken world, the sadness is [...]

The Lord is my shepherd

pastures

I am so thankful for God – who continues to give me such joy out of prayer and the study of His Word. I am praying He will continue to align me with opportunities to share Christ. I’ve been labeled as being disciplined. I guess that may be true, but from my perspective it’s simply desire. I want to know God more. I want to be as much as He will let me be. I [...]

Slowness & Patience

Alva

I was inspired by God again today. I watched a video which was basically the “story” of an old skateboarding legend. His name is Tony Alva. Mainly, I liked him for his unique style (and the cool designs of the skate decks). I didn’t know him though. As a kid, I only saw a tiny view of who he was in Thrasher magazine. Like most people I come into contact with, I had no idea [...]

My Spiritual Birthday: a Love Story

love

So today is a big day. I accepted Jesus into my life exactly 1 year ago. It’s been a whirlwind of a ride, too! I can’t begin to say how my life has changed, or at least make it short enough for anyone to read . But take my word for it, I was born one year ago (not 30-something years ago). Everything is new. Everything is amazing. And honestly, everything is hard. I’ve been [...]

Water In Hard Ground

God's seed

Lately I feel like the Holy Spirit is the only thing that loosens the soil beneath my feet. He the main ingredient in helping the seed Christ planted in me, grow. In fact, the Holy Spirit is the only Godly part of my body. Sure, I was made by God for God, but when I asked Jesus into my life, my so-called “reason for being” changed pretty dramatically. There’s NO WAY I can do anything [...]

Rejoice!

rejoiceicon

Every night I read a devotional with my son, Wilder. Tonight’s was about “The Book of Life”. We talked about it and read a short passage in Revelations 21: 22-26 where it talks about Jesus (the Lamb) holding The Book of Life. The book contains the names for people of all nations who are going to be with Him forever. We talked about asking Jesus into our lives as a Savior. Wilder said he’d done [...]

1.1.11

knowGod

One. One. One One. All ones. It’s kinda like starting over again. Here’s my short resolution list for 2011. – DO (don’t just “think” about doing, actually DO) – Always rely on God for direction. – Continue reading & studying the Word everyday. – Work in more regular scripture based family time so we can learn more TOGETHER. – Give more. – Love more. – Keep pushing further outside my comfort zone. My continual prayer [...]

The Greatest Gift

christmas

Colorful lights, warm cozy fires, Frosty the Snowman songs, Santa Claus, cookies, and  toys…lots of toys! That’s what Christmas is all about, right? Well, that’s what it meant to me for a really long time and it WAS fun that way. But this year, things have changed, and Christmas has turned into something quite different. I see Christmas through a new lens and let me tell you…it’s much more meaningful than ever before. Even when [...]

Got Time?

clock

Don’t you wish relationships were easy? Don’t you wish you could just sit back and things would take care of themselves? After all, who has time to work so hard at yet another relationship? I mean, you already have a husband or wife,  your kids, co-workers at the office…and the list goes on from there! Maintaining a social life can be draining! Think about it…without working at a specific relationship, you’ll soon find problems or distance. You’ll [...]

A Thank You Note to God

fall

On this Thanksgiving, I am more grateful than ever. I’m humbled by what God has done in my life. Through His grace alone, I have been changed. It’s nothing I’ve done, but only what He’s done IN me. I’m thankful for a God who provides me with an opportunity to know Him more deeply. I’m thankful for a God who gives me the fruits of the Spirit and let’s them grow inside me. I’m thankful [...]

The Whole of You

C.S. Lewis said, "If you're thinking of becoming a Christian, I warn you, you're embarking on something which will take the whole of you." This quote rings especially true for me lately. Despite not having posted in awhile, it's certainly not because my faith has dimmed. It's actually quite the opposite.

C.S. Lewis said, “If you’re thinking of becoming a Christian, I warn you, you’re embarking on something which will take the whole of you.” This quote rings especially true for me lately. Despite not having posted in awhile, it’s certainly not because my faith has dimmed. It’s actually quite the opposite. Since my last post, I’ve finished reading and studying the book of Matthew, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, and Ecclesiastes (Solomon’s words blew me away!). Beyond that, I finished [...]

A Needed Change

Free yourself of stuff

I just finished reading 1 Corinthians. I didn’t know what to expect, but found myself getting really drawn in, the further along I read. Paul was a radical guy. He was seriously dedicated to his calling. He had some BIG faith! Paul originally HATED Christians (even killed them!), but after accepting Christ, he spread the Gospel more than anyone (what a turn-around!). Once he changed his life, Paul had one goal and one goal only, [...]

Who’s In Charge…?

Let God Steer

Even though I lived most of my life with worry, one day, I finally gave up. And when I say “gave up,” I don’t mean it in the literal sense. I mean, I gave my worry up to God. Since my walk began, and more specifically, when I gave myself wholeheartedly to God, I went from falling victim to worry, to having hardly any worry at all. By giving Him 100% of myself, I begin [...]

Feeling Is Believing

believe in God

Sometimes I think to myself, “people must think I’m crazy”. But beyond an irrational explanation for such an intense feeling, I really can’t explain it better than – “it’s just the way I’m feeling it.” I have tried to get the words right in my head before making this post over the last few days, but I really can’t seem to get it right. So, I’m doing it anyway. Now if this is your first [...]
